I just ran across this article, which is oh, so very disturbing, and it made me think: How far removed is this from some of the food ethics issues we're discussing this semester? The US doesn't require labeling for cloned, bio-engineered, and genetically modified foods. So. Well, you read this and see what you think.

  1. Yikes! The pharmaceutical industry really does scare me.
Doctors nowadays simply give out antibiotics to fix problems when really, antibiotics only lead to more problems.
I'm thinking about trying homeopathic medicine instead from now on...

  2. I agree with Larissa! It seems like they recall medicines as much as they recall foods. The unwanted side effects cause problems instead of solving them. I think it's crazy how much we rely on science unnecessarily with medicine and food. -Melissa

  3. I cannot get over how disgusting that entire article was. I'm so shocked on what they did to those inmates! All the weird ways that the doctors came up with to give the diseases to them were just plain digusting. However, I do agree with both Melissa and Larissa on the issue of medicences. Drugs cure problems, but they also create them. I love science and always will but scientists need to use their knowledge for good and not for evil. :) -Skye

  4. I agree with all the comments. This article was very disturbing! The fact that they were so into the clinical trials because they "could be done more cheaply and with fewer rules" was very annoying. This should not be what scientists chould be concerned with. Like Skye mentioned, drugs should solve problems not create more. This article was very interesting, informative, and eye-opening!

  5. That article was very disturbing indeed! Even though the medical trials were for the "greater good", they were infecting people who were perfectly healthy. This is obviously not the right way to search for cures... The US government was wrong in condemning the Nazis for something that they were just as guilty.
